Watch Out for GoDaddy Phishing Scam

Watch Out for GoDaddy Phishing Scam

I think anyone who has an email address has received a fraudulent email stating that their Paypal or bank account needs to be updated.

The scammers have moved on to GoDaddy now. I recently received an email stating that the contact information on my GoDaddy account had been recently changed.

The poor grammar, misspellings and links that weren’t even masked gave it away immediately.

However, the thing to remember is that if you have a domain registered with them, GoDaddy will be sending you emails. Just don’t click on the email links. Go directly to web site to log in.

Here’s the reality. Phishers are successful because we are LAZY. Does it take more than 5 seconds and a couple of keystrokes to go to the web site in a browser? No. It is just more convenient to click on the link in the email.

Besides online banking services, Paypal, and GoDaddy, another prevalent scam is for ecards, particularly Hallmark.

As I said before, we are LAZY. Ecards are lame. Instead of, “Show you care to send the very best, ” it should be, “I forgot your birthday and don’t have time to buy a $1 card and so I’m sending an ecard instead.”

I’m not saying that you have to send a hardmade card, but at least send something tangible. If you don’t have time to pick a card out, you can always order it online at USPS.com and have it mailed out directly. You can even pick a gift card to be included.

But back to the original point of the post, remember . . . Don’t click on shady links in your emails.

October News

It’s hard to believe that in less than two months, 2005 will be coming to an end. I don’t know about you, but I feel like I’m just getting resituated after Rita (I finally found my portfolio that I thought I had lost when we evacuated!), and now it’s time to get ready for the holidays.

I’ve created and prepared my business holiday cards, made sure everything is in order for the year-end accounting, and I’m getting ready to put together my marketing plan for 2006 (more on that later). But what I’ve really been spending time on lately is Picnic on the Park!

If you missed Picnic on the Park last year, it is a community Easter event held at Town Center Park. It will be on April 15th, 2006. There are game booths, vendors, entertainment, a free Easter Egg hunt, and new this year, a Ladies Luncheon and Easter Bonnet Contest.

In short, just an all-around happy day.

If you would like to participate as a business or an individual, be sure to get with me soon. Vendor and game booths are going fast. RE/MAX reserved the inflatables several months ago. But don’t worry, we have a whole list of fun activities available. So put us in your marketing plan for 2006.

Speaking of which, do you have yours ready? Your 2006 marketing plan that is. If not, join us for the “Developing a Marketing Plan” seminar series on November 8th and 10th at Homewood Suites.

Tuesday will cover defining your marketing message and Thursday will go over the actual nuts and bolts of the plan. When you walk out of the seminar on Thursday, you’ll have your plan for 2006 and be ready to jump into the new year.

If you haven’t already reserved your space, call me at 281-305-9157 so I will be sure to have enough materials on hand.

Recent Projects

I have been working on projects besides Picnic on the Park, after all, as Dawn says, I have to support my charity habit.

One of those projects was for another new local nonprofit, the Angel Alliance. It’s purpose is to help individuals and families in crisis, particularly those that are not supported by traditional agencies.

Another recent project was a web site for Signing Tots, which offers workshops and classes for parents to teach them to communicate with infants and toddlers incorporating American Sign Language.

Both of the sites are part of the Business Builder web site program.

September Happenings

August has been a month of landmarks.

Congratulations go to Germaine Porche with Eagles View Consulting and current ABWA president for being named to the Top Ten Business Women of ABWA.

Congratulations to Liz Fogt who has officially launched fogtnotes and will be creating custom thank you cards and note cards. She designed the note card that I use for my business. She reserved the domain name seven years ago and it is very exciting to see the actualization of a dream.

Also, I completed my first seminar series, The Exhibitor’s Edge. The next series will be in November on developing a marketing plan.

August News

Wellness QB: I just recently finished an identity package for a new business, Wellness QB. Wellness QB is owned by Cindy Simpson, a long-time Houston area resident and fellow ABWA member.

Cindy received her certification as a health educator and will be offering health and wellness seminars. Her web site is another example of the Business Builder web site package that I will be offering.

Friday Nite Crop Club: This is another project I am working on with Anna. Every fourth Friday we will be holding a workshop and creating a themed scrapbook layout. The first one was July 22nd and we created a very cool 4th of July layout.

It has been fun to design something that is more tactile than using a keyboard and mouse. I designed the logo to be used on the flyers, web site, and promotional items (won’t it look great on a t-shirt?). It is much more girly than anything else I’ve done so far and it was an interesting change.

Upcoming Events:

National Night Out: The National Night Out is an event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch to promote community spirit and police and community partnerships. It is the first Tuesday in August each year. It is a great way to meet your neighbors, reconnect with old and meet the new.

Exhibitor’s Edge: The first offering of the Exhibitor’s Edge is coming up on August 15th, from 7 to 9 pm. A second seminar will be offered during the day on August 25th, from 10 am to 12 pm. Seating is limited, so if one of the times and dates works better for you, be sure to register now.

New Business Builder Web Site Program

I am getting ready to launch a new Business Builder web site program. Specifically for businesses who would like a professional internet presence but are not ready for a custom designed site, the program will offer a subscription based web site starting at $39.95 per month with no set-up or design fees.

A site design can be chosen from a wide selection of predesigned CSS layouts that are standards compliant and follow accessibility guidelines. This isn’t a “build-your-own-site” program, we still take care of all the details.

And now to this month’s marketing tips.
