Sorry, I don't agree. I like that I can call their customer service and talk to a native, English speaking person within 5 minutes. On more than one occasion, they have helped me sort out domain issues for clients that weren't even registered through them. You can always find a discount code for Godaddy, even without their discount club. Namecheap is only a dollar less at regular price and Godaddy is cheaper with a discount code.

Also, I've never seen Godaddy do domain kiting, and I can't say the same for other big registrars.

If you care about your clients, do not refer them to goddady. There are other registrars better and cheaper than Goddady. Period.

I think UGG Australia had an issue with domain names before. There was this company called Uggs and Rugs who sued UGG Australia for putting a trademark on the word "uggs". Uggs are the generic name for any sheepskin boots in Australia and giving one company exclusive use of the word was completely unfair to the industry. The trademark was eventually removed in Australia but in retaliation, UGG Australia bought the domain name for Uggs and Rugs, including the mispelt names and all.

great advice. I would add that you register your domain name for at least 10 years, that way it is untouch for the next 10 years. Also, this helps with seo

Great advice. I had a client lose an extremely important domain name not long ago. Someone bought it out from under her and they held it for "ransom" by offering to sell it back for $10K. It took months of negotiating before we recovered it at a reasonable rate.

Take Carla's advice! No one wants to go through this, especially with a domain you've worked long and hard to develop.

Hi Mark,

That's a good question. I think that it can be if businesses are aware of this phenomenon.

Carla,
Excellent tips! I just have one question for you.
With domain names being so cheap, I purchased many domain names that are very similar to the domain names I am using. As you are aware this is a common practice, even buying frequently misspelled words is common practice. Are these domain names of any value to the Industry that is picking up dropped domains?
Thank you,
Mark
