[FIRSTNAME],
In my last newsletter, I talked about focusing on growing your client base no matter what method of marketing you used.
A couple of months ago, I talked with someone regarding search engine optimization (SEO) services. Their whole focus was on ranking as high as possible in Google. All they wanted to consider was on page and off site optimization and completely ignored any method of lead capture and customer development system.
That was, in my opinion, a mistake.
Now we all want top spots in Google, but if you build your business solely around getting leads from Google for your day-to-day business, you are basing that business on very unstable ground.
I don't care how good you are, everyone sees a fluctuation in rankings at some point.
As I mentioned last week, Google search results have been very unstable. There were two major algorithm updates this year with "tweaks" every four to five weeks.
What Google gives, Google can take away . . . at any time it wants.
Is that what you want to rely on?
Not to say that performing well in the search engines isn't important, it is.
But it is a means to an end, not the end itself.
Use Google and your rankings to grow your client base. Capture those leads. Develop your own list. Have a system for nurturing and growing those client relationships.
