I think that the more professional your website is about the more simpler and user-friendly your website has to be. It doesn’t have to have all the outrageous designs that some websites have.

I agree that it is important to break people’s pattern when they visit your site and visual content ie, videos or images are awesome ways to also slow down your reader and spend more time on your site.
